Creativity Explored (CE) is a San Francisco nonprofit that partners with artists with developmental disabilities to create an artistic, studio-based collective where the creative capacity of any person can flourish. For over 40 years, CE has supported disabled artists by providing them with skilled artistic mentors, studio and gallery space, and career support. Now CE is an intergenerational organization that serves 500 young artists alongside 140 adult artists.

CE is founded on the belief that art changes lives, recognizing the power of creative expression and self-determination. CE’s founders Florence Ludins-Katz and Elias Katz, an artist and psychologist, formed the organization in 1983 in response to the nationwide deinstitutionalization of disabled people which left many unhoused, unsupported, and unseen.

To center the experiences of people with disabilities, CE operates with a person centered thinking approach, placing our artists at the center of our community.

Our impact is growing - we’ve welcomed 325% more individuals with disabilities than three years ago. Your support ensures that CE artists have not only a safe place to create but also a platform to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
